For the 17th/18th century Sufi writer of the zawiyya Nasiriyya see Ahmed ibn Nasir. Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Nasiri al-Salawi, (1834/5-1897) was born in Salé and is considered to be the greatest Moroccan historian of the 19th century.〔David Robinson, Jean-Louis Triaud, Ghislaine Lydon, ''Le temps des marabouts: itinéraires et stratégies islamiques en Afrique occidentale francaise v. 1880-1960'', p. 136, Paris: Karthala editions, 1997, Islam and state ISBN 2-86537-729-6〕 He was a prominent scholar and a member of the family that founded the Nasiriyya Sufi order in the 17th century. He wrote an important multivolume history of Morocco: ''Kitab al-Istiqsa li-Akhbar duwwal al-Maghrib al-Aqsa''.〔New annotated edition in 8 volumes, Keta Books, 2002〕 The work is a general history of Morocco and the Islamic west from the Islamic conquest to the end of the 19th century.
